I-SEA Impact Business Days is the culmination of Instellar & IKEA Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator (I-SEA) programme which took place from October 2021 – July 2023
JAKARTA (7 June 2023) – Instellar and IKEA are holding Instellar & IKEA Social Entrepreneurship Indonesia Accelerator (I-SEA) Impact Business Days on 7-8 June 2023 at the Pullman Thamrin Hotel, Jakarta. This event is the culmination of a series of I-SEA programs that take place from October 2021 – July 2023.
I-SEA Impact Business Days was attended by 200 participants with diverse backgrounds ranging from investors, corporates, social enterprises and ecosystem enablers. This event also presents a series of activities such as panel discussions, exhibitions, pitching sessions, and networking to collaborate with potential corporate partners, investors and venture capitalists.
“Through this event we want to show that it is not impossible to work with social enterprises in a way that is mutually beneficial. We encourage more companies to find ways to strengthen collaboration with social enterprises that are in line with their business strategy,” said Romy Cahyadi, CEO of Instellar.
The I-SEA program is an accelerator program to create better opportunities for vulnerable and marginalized people, by contributing to the improvement of local social enterprises.
This program consists of several stages, starting with the recruitment of social entrepreneurs. Those who are selected then enter the Acceleration stage which includes a showcase event, then continues to the Growth and Impact Hack stage which includes mentoring activities.
In the process, 10 Social Enterprise Changemakers were selected representing various business sectors. They are Kulaku Indonesia (manufacturer and distributor of processed and coconut-derived products), Alner which was originally named Koinpack (provider of reusable packaging systems), Duitin (developer of digital services that facilitate recycling and waste management), Liberty Society (producer of friendly merchandise environment that empowers refugees and women affected by violence and poverty) and Rumah Mocaf Indonesia (producer of gluten-free all-purpose flour from cassava as an ingredient in bread).
And then, there are Westbike Messenger Service (delivery service provider using a bicycle), Greenie (manufacturer of sustainable materials for crafts & furniture from non-timber forest products and agricultural waste), QYOS (provider of automatic refill stations for household products), Sustaination (e-commerce platform for sustainable products) and Plépah (manufacturer of areca nut-based eco-friendly packaging).
The I-SEA program provides space and insight for Social Enterprise Changemakers to grow their business. “For us, peer learning is one of the things we like the most because it can be a moment to share experiences and insights. In addition, it also feels like a family. I-SEA is one of our safe spaces,” said Mustopa Patapa, CEO of Kulaku Indonesia.
Over the last 18 months, the I-SEA program has supported 10 innovative social enterprises from Indonesia. From sustainable agriculture to waste management, textiles and responsible sourcing. Although the goals and achievements of each social enterprise in this program may differ, all of these social enterprises share one aspiration, namely to increase social impact while developing their business.
“It is very interesting to support and learn from this social enterprise. With the program closing, we congratulate all entrepreneurs on their achievements and look forward to following their journey and supporting their future success,” said Åsa Skogström Feldt, Managing Director of IKEA Social Entrepreneurship.
IKEA and Instellar will continue their commitment to helping social enterprises through the Instellar & IKEA Social Entrepreneur Accelerator (I-SEA) program which will start again in 2024, with new social enterprises in the next cohort. Information about the program will be announced via the Instagram accounts @instellarid and @iseaccelerator.
