The SDG Academy room at Tanoto Foundation was filled with excitement as Changemakers from the 10 selected social enterprises in the I-SEA program underwent a two-day leadership training on 4th-5th September 2024. The training helped them to identify their personal leadership styles, build a collaborative work culture, and become inclusive leaders in their social enterprises. Facilitated by Social Entrepreneurship Academy, IKEA Indonesia, and Instellar, the training provided an interactive atmosphere with discussions and sharing sessions that encouraged participants to support each other for a greater impact progress.
The first day of the training was a moment of self-reflection. Changemakers were invited to explore their leadership style and how it affects the people around them. In small groups, they shared stories of inspiring leaders, then brainstormed to identify key characteristics of those leaders. Through this process, they became more aware of the values and character traits that a leader should possess.
In the next session, Changemakers learned to communicate more effectively by sharing their own journeys and achievements. Everyone played a role in this interactive group, either speaking, listening, or taking notes on the leadership characteristics that emerged. This activity encouraged the Changemakers to improve their confidence, empathy, and communication skills, while recognizing the leadership potential within themselves.
On the second day, things got even more exciting with team building games and in-depth communication exercises. Changemakers not only learned to be effective team players, but also attentive listeners. These skills helped them respond more wisely and hone smarter questioning skills, which are essential for creating meaningful discussions by learning a non-directive approach.
In addition, Changemakers also explored their individual learning style preferences, ranging from activist, reflector, theorist, to pragmatist. Each learning style has unique strengths, and this understanding helps them create more effective learning strategies. This not only encourages self-development, but is also essential to becoming a leader who can guide and support a team. In the end, they will be ready to create a work environment where everyone can thrive and contribute optimally.
These two days of training really built the spirit of the Changemakers! They not only honed their leadership and communication skills, but also learned learning styles to become more effective leaders. In the dynamic world of social entrepreneurship, we need leaders who can adapt and drive change. So, get ready to share stories, listen to others’ experiences, and support each other to make learning more fun and rewarding!
