CEO & COO Notes: Navigating uncertainty in 2023

Global crisis and inflation have become a hot topic among business people and business in the export-import sector has started to feel the impact. Strengthening the domestic economy is one of the keys to surviving global crisis, and Indonesia has proven several times that we can survive it.
Looking back, we faced an unexpected storm when Covid-19 pandemic hit the world in 2020. But look at us now, we passed the test, we survived, we thrived, and we grew. After all, life is about navigating constant uncertainty.
That being said, how do we navigate the uncertainties waiting for us ahead? What can we do to face the challenges in 2023?
- Be cautious but remain optimistic
Draw up your plans and strategies, and be optimistic in the execution.
- Know why you do what you do
Remind yourself why you are in this position, in this business. This can be the foundation in decision making process.
- Improve cost efficiency
Anticipate shifts in demand in terms of quantity, type of service, frequency, and amount of rupiahs. Don’t forget to pay attention to your cash flow.
- Focus on company internal development
Shift your focus from worrying too much about external conditions (those beyond your control) to bettering internal conditions (team, customers, vendors, family, even yourself). Remember, business is about people.
- Learn to discern between problem and tension
Problem is to be solved while tension is to be managed.
- Maintain good relationship
Despite the global economic slowdown, forge deeper relationships with partners, teams, and the entrepreneurs you support.
- Keep an open mind and be flexible
You’ll be amazed by how many surprises you can get by keeping an open mind. Good surprise or not, we can take a lesson or two from either.
